The tradition of Christmas caroling has been practiced since old times by humans. This is a perfect idea on how to pass around the festive mood without spending a fortune. Christmas caroling is customary used as a way to get money for charities during the holiday celebrations.

They say Christmas caroling was first begun by groups of drunken guys being in search for a handout. Thus they visited house-to-house singing folk songs or drinking songs for money or a drink.

There is also opinion that Christmas caroling is associated with a small girl under the name of Carol Poles. In 1888 Carol was missed from London. It was the time of the serial killer Jack the Ripper.  According to the legend her family, friends and people looking for the little child sang Christmas carols entering house to house and knocking the doors. It is considered that Christmas caroling went on from that time. This account is more evident as it is described in Charles Dickens story. It is A Christmas Carol, written 50 years earlier that displays people knocking door to door singing Christmas carols.

The most credible account in regards to the Christmas caroling origin may be found in England in the 1840’s. After Prince Albert of Germany got in wife Victoria of England, the English peasants were ready to please the new royal family. After airing in a newspaper that Prince Albert loved Christmas carols, his peasants began serenading him with them. Since that time it became a tradition.

It is also believed that the Methodists and Lutherans carried a modified version of this custom to the United States. Here there are traveling carolers who are usually offered food and drinks thus being welcomed into the homes that they were singing.

No matter how Christmas caroling tradition started, it is still adored by a lot of people.
