I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas

Posted in October 14th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don’t want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don’t think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won’t have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door, that’s the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There’s lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I’d feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

The song “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” was written in 1950 by John Rox and became a nationwide hit in 1953 when ten-year-old Oklahoma native Gayla Peevey (10 years old at the time) sang the song as a way to raise money for the Oklahoma City Zoo’s first hippopotamus. In December of that year the city received Matilda the hippo for Christmas.

Christmas Shoes Lyrics

Posted in October 6th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing round like little boys do, and in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say

(Chorus) Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy said there’s not much time
You see, mom’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically, then he turned and he looked at me
He said, “Mama always made Christmas good at our house,
Through most years she did without
Tell me, sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow, I’ve got to buy these Christmas shoes.”
I just had to help him out
And as I laid the money down
I’ll never forget the look on his face
When he said, “Mama’s gonna look so great.”

(Repeat Chorus)

I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love as he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy my way
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

(Repeat Chorus)

The Christmas Shoes, which evokes a huge emotional response in every person who hears it was written by Eddie Carswell of NewSong and released by NewSong in 2000. It rose to the top of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Singles chart on January 6, 2001.

“The Christmas Shoes”, a Christmas bonus track from Sheltering Tree, became a #1 mainstream radio hit. It made it to the top of the Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart, and inspired Donna VanLiere to write a book based on the song.
Originally an Internet-forwarded legend, it was forwarded to a member of the Christian vocal group NewSong in 1996. They worked on the song for four years and eventually released it as a bonus track in 2000; it reached #31 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart that year.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas Lyrics

by admin in Christmas Lyrics

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer
We won’t go until we get some;
We won’t go until we get some;
We won’t go until we get some, so bring some out here

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“We Wish You a Merry Christmas” is a popular secular sixteenth-century English carol from the West Country of England. It is one of the few traditional holiday carols that makes mention of the New Year celebration.
The tradition of carollers being given Christmas treats for singing to wealthy members of the community is reflected in this Christmas song - We Wish You a Merry Christmas!
In the days of Olde England, groups of traveling singers would entertain for food or pay. These groups were called “waits” and were extremely popular at Christmas time. We Wish You a Merry Christmas is one of these old tunes.

Where Are You Christmas Lyrics

by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Where are you Christmas
Why can’t I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can’t I hear music play

My world is changing
I’m rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I’m not the same one
See what the time’s done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here everywhere, oh
Christmas is here if you care, oh

If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I’ve found you
You never fade away
The joy of Christmas
Stays here in silence
Fills each and every heart with love

Where are you Christmas
Fills your heart with love.

“Christmas, Why Can’t I Find You” (”Where Are You, Christmas?”) is a song written by James Horner for the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas in the year 2000. It was first performed by Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy Lou Who in the movie.
A longer and different version of this song, called “Where Are You, Christmas?”, was co-written by James Horner, Will Jennings and Mariah Carey. The song was originally recorded by Mariah Carey, but due to a legal dispute with her ex-husband Tommy Mottola , she could not release her own recording. It was re-recorded and released by Faith Hill.

Frosty the Snowman Lyrics

Posted in September 28th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul
With a corn cop pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made out of snow
But the children know how he came to life one day
There must of been some magic in
That ol’ silk cap they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around

Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me

Frosty the snowman knew the snow was hot that day
So he said lets run and have some fun before I melt away
Down to the village with a broom stick in his hand
Runnin’ here and there all around the square
Sayin’ catch me if you can

He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop
And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler stop

Frosty the snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye sayin’ please don’t cry
I’ll be back again some day

Frosty the Snowman is a very popular Christmas song and has been a great favorite with children since the very beginning.
“Frosty the Snowman” is a popular song written by Walter “Jack” Rollins and Steve Nelson, and first recorded by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys in 1950.
The song is about a snowman who came to life thanks to a magical hat some children found; he then had playful adventures before he “hurried on his way”. This include games, sports, and other jolly things. Near the end of their adventures together, the children are saddened by Frosty having to hurry on his way for the last time.
The song has been recorded by several artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Perry Como. In 1954 a short film based on the song was shown on WGN-TV and in 1969, a longer animated version was produced for tv by Rankin-Bass.

Joy To The World Lyrics

Posted in September 26th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Joy to the world! The Lord is come.
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart
Prepare Him room
And Saints and angels sing
And Saints and angels sing
And Saints and Saints and angels sing

Joy to the world, the Saviour reigns
Let Saints their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, Repeat, the sounding joy

Joy to the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders and wonders of His love

No more will sin and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He’ll come and make the blessings flow
Far as the curse was found,
Far as the curse was found,
Far as, far as the curse was found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And gives to nations proof
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love;
And wonders of His love;
And wonders, wonders of His love.

Rejoice! Rejoice in the Most High,
While Israel spreads abroad
Like stars that glitter in the sky,
And ever worship God,
And ever worship God,
And ever, and ever worship God.

“Joy to the World” is a popular Christmas carol.
The words and lyrics of the old Christmas carol ‘Joy to the World’ were written in 1719 by Isaac Watts.
The music was adapted and arranged by Lowell Mason from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel.
The father of John Watts was a Non-conformist and so extreme were his views that he was imprisoned twice. His father’s influence over Isaac was demonstrated when he choose to attend Nonconformist Academy at Stoke Newington in preference to a University. Watts was ordained as a Pastor of an Independent congregation.
One of the most well known recordings of “Joy To The World” is an instrumental version by conductor Percy Faith. First recorded in 1954 on his “Music of Christmas” LP (Columbia CL 588), it was re-recorded in stereo in 1959 as Columbia 8176.
The popular European group Boney M. covered the song in 1984 which was internationally released in 1986 on their album The 20 Greatest Christmas Songs.

Let It Snow Lyrics

Posted in September 26th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

It doesn’t show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say good night,
How I’ll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I’ll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we’re still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” (Let It Snow”), is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in 1945.
It was first recorded by Vaughn Monroe, became a huge popular hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard music chart the following year.
The words and lyrics of Let It Snow reflect the feeling of warmth and security associated with Christmas and also brings in the more modern customs of popping corn! The song Let It Snow was reprised in recent years when used in the Bruce Willis film Die Hard which started with the film’s hero travelling to meet his family at Christmas.
Due to its seasonal lyrics, “Let It Snow!” is commonly regarded as a Christmas song. Yet despite its cheery, holiday feel, it is a love song that never mentions Christmas.

The Little Drummer Boy Lyrics

Posted in September 16th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see,
Pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby
Pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too,
Pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
That’s fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you!
Pa rum pum pum
On my drum.

Mary nodded
Pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him
Pa rum pum pum
I played my best for Him
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me
Pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

“The Little Drummer Boy” is a popular Christmas song, with words and music by Katherine K. Davis.
Davis in 1941 based on an old Czech carol. Other names credited for this song are Henry Onorati and Harry Simeone.
“Little Drummer Boy” was originally titled “Carol of the Drums” because of the repeating line “pa rum pum pum pum” which imitates the sound of a drum.
The lyrics of Little Drummer Boy consist of no less than 21 rum pum pum pum’ - a major part of the song and therefore presenting an apparently easy task for the lyricist! However, Little Drummer Boy has been a huge hit for several artists.
Interesting Fact: A claymation version based on the song was produced by Rankin-Bass for tv in 1968 with the voice of Eileen Evelyn Greer Garson narrating.

Winter Wonderland Lyrics

Posted in September 16th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He’ll say: Are you married?
We’ll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you’re in town.

Later on, we’ll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we’ve made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he’s a circus clown
We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.

When it snows, ain’t it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Walking in a winter wonderland,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

“Winter Wonderland” is a pop standard written in 1934 by Felix Bernard (composer) and Richard B. Smith (lyricist). It has been recorded many different times by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Eurythmics, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Karen Carpenter, Cyndi Lauper, Stryper and the Cocteau Twins.
Probably the most popular versions of this classic Christmas song, Winter Wonderland, were recorded to high acclaim by the Andrews Sisters and Perry Como.
The lyrics of Winter Wonderland have undoubtedly contributed to the magical vision of snow at Christmas together with the tradition of building snowmen and therefore turning fantasy into reality by creating a real Winter Wonderland.

White Christmas Lyrics

Posted in September 10th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.

“White Christmas” is an Irving Berlin song whose lyrics reminisce about White Christmases.
The song White Christmas is undoubtedly the most famous and popular of all the Christmas songs.
Berlin wrote the song in early 1940 while sitting poolside at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. The original verse pokes fun at a well-off Los Angeleno who, amid orange and palm trees, longs for traditional Christmas “up north”. Berlin later dropped the verse but kept the now-famous chorus.
The lyrics of White Christmas struck a chord with the soldiers fighting in the Second World War and their families who were waiting for them back home. The song and recording of White Christmas by Bing Crosby with John Scott Trotter’s orchestra and the Ken Darby Singers was so popular that it was later reprised in the movie called after its name - White Christmas.
Crosby’s “White Christmas” single sold more than 50 million copies. The Guinness Book of World Records currently lists the song as a 100-million seller (this encompassing all versions of the song, including on albums).

O Holy Night Lyrics

Posted in September 10th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

O holy night,
The stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of
Our dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world
In sin and error pining,
Till He appeared
And the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope,
The weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees,
O hear the angel voices!
O night divine,
O night when Christ was born!
O night divine, O night,
O night divine!

Led by the light of Faith
Serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts
By His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star
Sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men
From Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus
In lowly manger,
In all our trials
Born to be our Friend!
He knows our need,
To our weakness no stranger;
Behold your King!
Before the lowly bend!
Behold your King! your King!
Before Him bend.

Truly He taught us
To love one another;
His law is love and
His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break
For the slave is our brother
And in His name
All oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in
Grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us
Praise His holy name!
Christ is the Lord,
Oh praise His name forever,
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim
His pow’r and glory
Evermore proclaim.

“O Holy Night” (”Cantique de Noël”) is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem “Minuit, chrétiens” by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877), a wine merchant and poet.
Cappeau was a wine seller by trade but was asked by the parish priest to write a poem for Christmas. He obliged and wrote the beautiful words of the hymn.
In the carol, the singer recalls the birth of Jesus. It was translated into English by Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight, editor of Dwight’s Journal of Music in 1855, and lyrics also exist in other languages.

Jingle Bells Lyrics

Posted in September 10th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh.

“Jingle Bells”, also known as “One Horse Open Sleigh”, is one of the best known and commonly sung secular Christmas songs in the world.
James Lord Pierpont (1822-1893) wrote the song in 1857. The said song was meant for a Thanksgiving program at a church in Savannah, Georgia where Pierpont was organist. The song was so well accepted that it was again sung on Christmas day and since then became one of the most popular Christmas carols.
When it was originally published in 1857, Pierpont’s song had a different chorus melody, which was more classical, even Mozart-like. The 1857 lyrics differed slightly from those we know today.

Silent Night Lyrics

Posted in September 9th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, All is bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so Tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!
Christ the Saviour is born!
Christ the Saviour is born!

Silent night, holy night!
Wondrous star, lend thy light!
With the angels let us sing
Alleluia to our King!
Christ the Saviour is here,
Jesus the Saviour is here!

Silent night, Holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord at thy birth;
Jesus Lord at thy birth.

On Christmas Eve 1818 the carol “Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht” was heard for the first time in a village church in Oberndorf, Austria. As the fame of this carol grew, its whereabouts were slowly forgotten. Myths and fanciful tales gathered around its origins. Only recently the name of the real composer was discovered.
“Silent Night” (”Stille Nacht”) is a popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song Stille Nacht were written in German by the Austrian priest Father Josef Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber. The version of the melody that is generally sung today differs slightly from Gruber’s original.
It is believed that the carol has been translated into over 300 languages and dialects around the world, and it is one of the most popular carols of all time. It is sometimes sung without musical accompaniment. Although written by Catholics, it is given special significance in Lutheranism.

Christmas Time Is Here

Posted in September 8th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year

Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here
We’ll be drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year…

The musical soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas, by jazz composer Vince Guaraldi, has become as well-known as the story itself. In particular, the instrumental “Linus and Lucy” has come to be regarded as the signature musical theme of the Peanuts specials. Additionally “Christmas Time is Here” has become a popular holiday tune.

Christmas Is Coming Lyrics

by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Christmas Is Coming Lyrics

Christmas is coming,
The geese are getting fat,
Please put a penny
In the old man’s hat.
If you haven’t got a penny,
A ha’penny will do,
If you haven’t got a ha’penny,
Then God bless you.

This traditional Christmas song has been handed down from generations in the form of a nursery rhyme. Who wrote it, is still a mystery. Edith Nesbit Bland composed its music in the late nineteenth century.
The words of Christmas is coming reflects the Christmas festival of celebration of being a time of plenty but that charity should be given to the less fortunate according to the giver’s means!
The lyrics of this song were to associate the Christmas feast with geese which were traditional English Christmas fayre. The meaning that was conveyed to a child was that the festive period was where each should give to charity, according to their means…even if they could only give their blessing!

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth Lyrics

Every body Pauses and stares at me
These two teeth are gone as you can see
I don’t know just who to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
“Merry Christmas.”
It seems so long since I could say,
“Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!”
Gosh oh gee, how happy I’d be,
if I could only whistle (thhhh, thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth.

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
“Merry Christmas!”

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer Lyrics

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
She’d been drinkin’ too much egg nog,
And we’d begged her not to go.
But she’d left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.
When they found her Christmas mornin’,
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin’ Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin’ home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa,
He’s been takin’ this so well.
See him in there watchin’ football,
Drinkin’ beer and playin’ cards with cousin Belle.
It’s not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family’s dressed in black.

And we just can’t help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin’ home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma’swig.
I’ve warned all my friends and neighbours.
Better watch out for yourselves.”
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin’ home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas Lyrics

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
I don’t want a doll, no dinkey tinker toys

I don’t think Santa Claus will mind, do you?

I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs
Oh what a joy, Oh what a BIG surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinosaurus
I only likes hippopotamuses

Rusty Chevrolet Lyrics

Dashing through the snow in my rusty Chevrolet.
Down the road I go, sliding all the way.
I need new piston rings. I need some new snow tires.
My car is held together by a piece of chicken wire!

Chorus
Oh, rust and smoke, the heater’s broke, the door just blew away.
I light a match to see the dash and then I start to pray-ay.
The frame is bent, the muffler went, the radio’s okay.
Oh, what fun it is to drive this rusty Chevrolet!

I went to IGA to get some Christmas cheer.
I just passed up my left front tire and it’s gettin’ hard to steer.
Speeding down the highway, right past the county cops.
I have to drag my swampers just to get the car to stop.

Chorus
Oh, rust and smoke, the heater’s broke, the door just blew away.
I light a match to see the dash and then I start to pray-ay.
The frame is bent, the muffler went, the radio’s okay.
Oh, what fun it is to drive this rusty Chevrolet!

Bouncing through the snowdrifts in a big, blue cloud of smoke.
People laugh as I drive by; I wonder what’s the joke!
I have to get to Wal-Mart to pick up my layaway,
Cause Santa’s comin’ soon in his big, old, rusty sleigh!

Chorus
Oh, rust and smoke, the heater’s broke, the door just blew away.
I light a match to see the dash and then I start to pray-ay.
The frame is bent, the muffler went, the radio’s okay.
Oh, what fun it is to drive this rus-ty Chev-ro-let!

The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen Lyrics

(To the Tune “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”)
The restroom door said Gentlemen
So I just walked inside
I took two steps and realized
I’d been taken for a ride
I heard high voices turned and found
The place was occupied
By two nuns, three old ladies, and a nurse
What could be worse?
Than two nuns, three old ladies and a nurse.

The restroom door said Gentlemen
It must have been a gag
As soon as I walked in there I ran into some old hag
She sprayed me with a can of mace
And snapped me with her bag.
I could tell this just wouldn’t be my day
What can I say?
It just wasn’t turning out to be my day.

The restroom door said Gentlemen
And I would like to find
The crummy little creep who had the nerve to switch the sign
Cause I’ve got two black eyes
And one high heel up my behind
Now I can’t sit with comfort and joy
Boy, oh, boy
No, I’ll never sit with comfort and joy.

Deck The Halls Lyrics

Posted in September 7th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
‘Tis the season to be jolly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

See the blazing Yule before us.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Follow me in merry measure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
While I tell of Yule-tide treasure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Fast away the old year passes.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Hail the new year, lads and lasses
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Sing we joyous, all together.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Heedless of the wind and weather.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

Deck the Halls is a traditional Yuletide and New Years’ carol. The “fa-la-la” refrains were probably originally played on the harp. In the eighteenth century Mozart used the tune to “Deck the Halls” for a violin and piano duet.
The music is an old Welsh melody. Mozart used it in a piano and violin duet in the 1700’s. The words are believed to be American from the 19th century.
How long “Deck the Halls” has been around is unknown. The words of “Deck the Halls” are from the 19th century and American. The repeated Fa la la la la la la la la used to be popular in medieval ballads.

Carol Of The Bells Lyrics

Posted in September 7th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Hark! how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say,
“Throw cares away.”
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold

Ding, dong, ding, dong
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling
One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From ev’rywhere
Filling the air

Oh how they pound,
Raising the sound,
O’er hill and dale,
Telling their tale,
Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas

On, on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone
To ev’ry home

Ding, dong, ding, dong

Now called “Carol of the Bells,” the song has become associated with Christmas because of its new lyrics, which include references to silver bells, caroling and the line “merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas.”
“Carol of the Bells” (”Ukrainian Bell Carol” or “Ring Christmas Bells”) is a choral miniature work originally composed by the Ukrainian composer and orthodox priest Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych.
Peter J. Wilhousky (1902-1978) wrote new lyrics based on the melody of Shchedryk in 1936. He copyrighted it and the song is what we now know as “Carol of the Bells”. As the title implies, this hauntingly beautiful song is about the sound of bells come Christmas time.

Baby Its Cold Outside Lyrics

Posted in September 7th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

I really can’t stay - Baby it’s cold outside
I’ve got to go away - Baby it’s cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you’d drop in
So very nice - I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what’s your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I’d better scurry - Beautiful, please don’t hurry
well Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it’s bad out there
Say, what’s in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell - I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move a little closer
At least I’m gonna say that I tried - What’s the sense in hurting my pride
I really can’t stay - Baby don’t hold out
Ahh, but it’s cold outside

C’mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it’s cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh baby, it’s cold outside
This welcome has been - I’m lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm — Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look so delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt’s mind is vicious - Gosh your lips look delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I’ve got to go home - Oh, baby, you’ll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb - It’s up to your knees out there
You’ve really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now
But don’t you see - How can you do this thing to me
There’s bound to be talk tomorrow - Making my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can’t stay - Get over that old out
Ahh, but it’s cold outside

Baby it’s cold outside

Brr its cold….
It’s cold out there
Cant you stay awhile longer baby
Well…..I really shouldn’t…alright

Make it worth your while baby
Ahh, do that again….

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is a pop standard with words and music by Frank Loesser. Loesser wrote the duet in 1944 and premiered the song with his wife at their Navarro Hotel housewarming party.
It made its public debut in the 1948 film “Neptune’s Daughter”.
The song quickly became a holiday standard, after being recorded by Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting (which hit #3 on the Billboard charts), Buddy Clark and Dinah Shore, Louis Jordan and Ella Fitzgerald, Don Cornell and Laura Leslie, and Homer & Jethro with June Carter - all just in the year 1949!
Due to the wintertime lyrics, the song is often played during the Christmas season. On Saturday Night Live NBC on 10/11/1986, the song was featured as a duet sung by Sigourney Weaver and Buster Poindexter. The song has been performed by Suzy Bogguss and Delbert McClinton and the song is featured on Suzy’s album “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” (2003).

Away In A Manger

Away In A Manger Lyrics

Away in a manger,
No crib for His bed,
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head;
The stars in the heavens
Looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing,
The poor Baby wakes,
But little Lord Jesus,
No crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus;
Look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle
Till morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus;
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray!
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven
To live with Thee there.

Away in a manger,
No crib for His bed,
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head;
The stars in the heavens
Looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay.

Away in a Manager is always the first carol that children are taught. Away in a Manger was originally published in 1885.
“Away in a Manger” is a religious Christmas carol first published in an 1885 Lutheran Sunday School book by James R. Murray, but the author of the first two stanzas is unknown.
There are at least two major melodies for the song, neither of them with certain authorship.
The carol is associated with the tune “Mueller” in some churches and with the tune “Cradle Song” in others. In 2004, John Tavener composed a new setting for the words. This setting was performed at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols at King’s College, Cambridge in 2005.

Auld Lang Syne Lyrics

Posted in September 6th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine;
But we’ve wandered mony a weary fit
Sin’ auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidled i’ the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin’ auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak a right guid-willie waught

For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

“Auld Lang Syne” (The Good Old Days) is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song.
Auld Lang Syne is a song traditionally sung at midnight when horns are blown, confetti is thrown, and a general party atmosphere is created to ring in the New Year with happiness and hope for a bright and prosperous year.
Robert Burns forwarded a copy of the original song to the Scots Musical Museum with the remark, “The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man’s singing, is enough to recommend any air.”
Perhaps it is not too much to say that “Auld Lang Syne” is the best known and most widely diffused song in the civilised world. The use of the sacred song “Old Hundred” is limited by differences of sect, and that of the National Anthem “God save the Queen” is confined to subjects of the British Empire.

Jingle Bell Rock Lyrics

Posted in September 4th, 2008
by admin in Christmas Lyrics

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it’s the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That’s the jingle bell,
That’s the jingle bell,
That’s the jingle bell rock.

Written by Joe Beal and Jim Boothe.
It was first released by Bobby Helms in 1957.
It has been performed by many, but Helms’ version is the best-known.
Despite being titled a Jingle Bell “Rock”, Helms’ version of the song was performed in the crossover style known as Rockabilly, and to modern ears it sounds a lot more “Country” than it does “Rock and Roll”.

Popular Christmas Pop Songs

All I Want for Christmas Is You
Mariah Carey
I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true …
All I want for Christmas
Is you …

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don’t need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you …
You baby
I won’t ask for much this Christmas
I won’t even wish for snow
I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won’t make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won’t even stay awake to
hear those magic reindeer click
‘Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding onto me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
You …

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children’s
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won’t you bring me the one
I really need - won’t you please
Bring my baby to me …

Oh I don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all I’m asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas
Is you …

All I want for Christmas
Is you baby
Is you baby

Ay, Ay, Ay - It’s Christmas
Ricky Martin
Girl it’s that time for year to sing
Feliz Navidad underneath the tree
there should be some presents
there from Santa Claus

Girl I’m begging you don’t be mad at me
I forgot it’s Christmas
and you’re oh so hard to try to please

Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas
and I don’t know what to do
Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas
and I don’t have a gift for you
I can give you ay, ay, ay
all you need is ay, ay, ay
un poquito ay, ay, ay
on this Christmas night, yeah

Girl, pretend my arms are like shiny,
big red bows
wrapped around your kisses
underneath the magic mistletoe
Girl, my gift of love is comin’ from the heart
peace on earth, goodwill to all starts
right here where we are
Everybody sing
Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas
and I don’t know what to do
Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas
and I don’t have a gift for you
I can give you ay, ay, ay
all you need is ay, ay, ay
un poquito ay, ay, ay
on this Christmas night, yeah

Vamono’

Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas

Ay, ay, ay, it’s Christmas
and I don’t have a gift for you

un poquito ay, ay, ay
on this Christmas night

 Christmas
The snow’s coming down
(Christmas)
I’m watching it fall
(Christmas)
Lots of people around
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

(Christmas)
The church bells in town
(Christmas)
All ringing in song
(Christmas)
Full of happy sounds
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

They’re singing “Deck The Halls”
But it’s not like Christmas at all
Cuz I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

(Christmas)
Pretty lights on the tree
(Christmas)
I’m watching them shine
(Christmas)
You should be here with me
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

They’re singing “Deck The Halls”
But it’s not like Christmas at all
Cuz I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

Bells Will Be Ringing
The Eagles
Bells will be ringing,
the glad, glad news;
Oh, what a Christmas,
to have the blues;
My baby’s gone;
I have no friends;
To wish me greetings,
once again;
Choirs will be singing,
Silent Night
Oh, Christmas Carols,
by candlelight;

Please come home for Christmas;
Please come home for Christmas;
If not for Christmas,
by New Year’s Night;

Friends and relations;
Send salutations;
Just as sure as the stars
shine above;

This is Christmas,
Christmas my dear;
The time of year to be with the one
that you love;

Then will you tell me,
you’ll never more roam;
Christmas and New Year
will find you home;
There’ll be no more sorrow;
No grief or pain;
‘Cause I’ll be happy that
it’s Christmas once again

Christmas Time
Bryan Adams & Jim Vallance
We waited all through the year
for the day to appear
when we could be together in harmony

You know the time will come
peace on earth for everyone
and we can live forever in a world where we are free
let it shine for you and me

There’s something about Christmas time
something about Christmas time
that makes you wish it was Christmas everyday

To see the joy in the children’s eyes
the way that the old folks smile
says that Christmas will never go away

We’re all as one tonight
makes no difference if you’re black or white
’cause we can sing together in harmony

I know it’s not too late
the world would be a better place
if we can keep the spirit more than one day in the year
send a message loud and clear

Chorus:
It’s the time of year when everyone’s together
we’ll celebrate here on Christmas day
when the ones you love are there
you can feel the magic in the air - you know it’s everywhere
There’s something about Christmas time
something about Christmas time
that makes you wish it was Christmas every day

To see the joy in the children’s eyes
the way that the old folks smile
says that Christmas will never go away

Christmas Lyrics

by christmas in Christmas Lyrics

Jingle Bells
Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
Every body stops
and stares at me
These two teeth are
gone as you can see
I don’t know just who
to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve
is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could with you
“Merry Christmas.”
It seems so long since I could say,
“Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!”
Gosh oh gee, how happy I’d be,
if I could only whistle (thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth.
Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
“Merry Christmas!”

It Must’ve Been Ol’
I think I saw ol’ Santa through my window Christmas eve
My eyes were really droopy but I really do believe
It must’ve been ol’ Santa ’cause I saw his big red hat
And I know my mom and dad can’t fly like that
And then I heard some footsteps in the hall outside my door
The same ol’ Christmas trick my dad had played since I was four
He stands outside my bedroom yelling “Ho! Ho! Ho!” because
He knows I don’t believe in Santa Claus

I think my daddy sees me
Peeking from my door
But he pretends he’s Santa anyway
Every year he tries to fool me
But I’m a big boy now I don’t believe in Santa or his sleigh…
No way!
So I went back to bed and I curled up nice and tight
I stared out my window and looked into the night
And then, all of a sudden, through my window I could see
Santa Claus was flying by and smiling at me
Santa Claus, Santa Claus
It must’ve been ol’ Santa Claus
Santa Claus, Santa Claus
Happy “Ho! Ho! Ho!” to you

Then I heard ol’ Rudolph tellin’ me to come outside
He told me that ol’ Santa wanted me to take a ride
I climbed out of my window and I jumped onto his sleigh
Then ol’ Santa took me up up and away
We flew high above the rooftops of my sleepy town below
I saw my big red school house and the town square picture show
It was really past my bedtime and so ol’ Santa said
“Little boys like you should be in bed”

So I hollered “Ho! Ho! Ho!”
And I put on Santa’s hat
Then he let me hold the reins awhile
We pulled up to my window
And I jumped back in my room
And I waved goodbye to Santa with a smile
When I woke up Christmas morning it was clear and bright
My parents said my window had blown open in the night
I smiled as I told them that it must’ve been the cat
And they asked me where I got my big red hat

Ave Maria
Ave Maria Gratia plena
Maria Gratia plena
Maria Gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus
Dominus tecum

Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus
Et benedictus fructus ventris
Ventris tui Jesus

Ave Maria
Ave Maria Mater dei
Ora pro nobis pecatoribus
Ora, ora pro nobis
Ora ora pro nobis pecatoribus

Nunc et in hora mortis
In hora mortis, mortis nostrae
In hora mortis nostrae
Ave Maria!
